Ironic

Last night it was I who was having trouble sleeping and not my darling son! We put Truman to sleep around 10:30pm last night and he didn't wake until 4:30am. I think I went in and checked on him about 100 times. Is he breathing? Is he OK? I lay awake nervous that something may happen to him. I know these thoughts were quite irrational, but I was honestly worried. He quickly ate and then slept until 8:30 this morning. Now, what worries me most is that our little one likes to sleep on his tummy. The last few nights he'd wake up every hour or every few hours, but last night he slept so well. Tonight, however, will not be a good indicator of his sleep habits since we probably will get home rather late. But, back on his tummy he will go. I think he'll be OK since he can move his head well and he is able to roll from his stomach to his side. I know I am still going to worry though....

Truman's disposition is back to normal today and it probably has to do with the fact that he slept so well last night. He has been a little chatter box and is giggling and smiling again. I guess I can't blame him for his demeanour the past few days, I am pretty grumpy too on little sleep!

Tonight we are off the the Sullivan's to bring in 2007. I want to wish everyone a HAPPY NEW YEAR and all the best for 2007!!!

4 Months Today

I am conflicted today as I am 1/3 done my maternity leave but my darling son is 4 months and many things are changing in his life! I can't wait for the next few months to see changes in his development.

So, crib training...Day 1 - DISASTROUS! Day 2 - WONDERFUL, Truman got up only twice and I thought that we had solved our sleeping problems in one night. I was so proud of our son, thinking how quickly he adapted! Then, last night from 12am until 6am Truman woke up every hour, on the hour for his pacifier. Luckily I was able to sleep between wakings and felt OK today. Truman cried for awhile this morning when I refused to place the soother in his mouth...it was a battle of the strongest willed and eventually he won. I then brought him to our bed but he refused to sleep! Instead he wanted to play. I am happy that he has had many naps today...I just hope he doesn't hate me for ending our sleeping arrangement. I am holding on, and holding on strong, but I miss sleeping with my little one. This coming from the person who never dreamt of co-sleeping! My, how circumstances change things. Truman has been a little grumpy the past few days, but I hope once he gets back into his sleeping habits he will be back to his happy self. As I write this however, T-dot is chatting up a storm!

This morning we had a short visit from Nanny and Oopa. Then, Truman and I went downtown and had lunch with Jerry and did a little shopping/returning at the Eaton Center. Wow was the mall a zoo, it was very trying making our way through the crowds. We are so excited for the long weekend and have an extra day with Jerry at home!

Merry Christmas!

Ho Ho Ho! Merry Christmas!!! We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season! It is hard to believe that all the presents have been opened and all the food eaten!

Jerry, Truman and I started the holidays with a lovely brunch at the Sullivan's on Saturday afternoon. The Thornton's and the Deans' were also in attendance. Yummy food was had by all!

On Christmas Eve Truman, Jerry and I had a wonderful lunch with David, Wawa, and Peter. Truman was so cute sitting in his Bumbo at the table, he really enjoys being a social butterfly! We then raced home to pack the car for our visit to Ajax. Morrie was delighted to see Rosie, a little friend for him to play with. Rosie is also a miniature schnauzer that Pat and Tina are puppy-sitting. You just have to imagine two "Morrie's" running and barking around the house. It was great entertainment watching them both play. On Christmas Eve Truman was able to open one of his gifts which was a snowsuit from Oopa and Nanny. We tried it on him and then went for a family walk.

Truman had a difficulty sleeping on Christmas Eve, his eczema was really bothering him and he kept scratching his face. Jerry and I felt so sorry for him and we had a hard time soothing him. It almost seemed like the cream we were using agitated him more. His skin does not seem to be getting any better and he now has figured out he can scratch his own face.

Christmas morning was lovely, Tina made fresh croissants and chai tea...so yummy (do you see the theme of food??). We opened our gifts and everyone was spoiled again this year. In the afternoon Truman, Jerry and I went to Alison's parents house to visit with Alexis. Almost every year Alie and I have our picture taken together, I hope we now will start a new tradition with our children. Alexis was in such great spirits despite having her first tooth come in!

Tina and Pat spent most of the day preparing a Christmas feast for the family. Wanda and David also joined us and it was a pleasant evening. Of course, everyone wanted to hold Truman and topic of conversation generally flowed around him.

Despite having a wonderful holiday, Truman has had a difficult few days. Last night Truman was put in his crib for the first time. The first hour was great, Jerry and I could hardly believe it. We started to think that this was going to be an easy feat! Boy were we wrong! From about 10:30pm until 4:00am he was up almost every 10 minutes to half an hour. I moved myself into his room and slept on a makeshift bed to try to get even 20 minutes of sleep. Jerry woke me up at about 7am and Truman was thankfully still sleeping. He got up around 8am (probably because he was hungry) and then we slept in our bed until late this morning. Wow is this going to be tough. I am happy that I was able to sleep for a little bit. I hope tonight will be a little easier but I am afraid that the worst is not over yet. I have to keep thinking that this is for Truman's sake and that the longer we wait the more difficult this will become. I was heartbroken putting him to sleep in his crib last night. Every time I would put his soother back in his mouth he had a death grip on my hands. Which made my heart break a little more. Stay tuned!!

The Weigh In: Part Three/Happy Hanukkah

On Wednesday Truman had his 4 month check up and weighed in at 15lbs 1 oz and is 64.5 cm long...which means he only grew a half a centimeter in a month so I am assuming the measurements are off!! He was very brave when he got his shots and only made a whimper with the first needle.

We have been spending the week getting ready for the holidays and finished our shopping and only have a few more packages to wrap! Today we went to a lovely Hanukkah party hosted by Macayla and Bronna. Bronna, is the Jewish Martha Stewart so there were many delicious treats to be devoured! Yummy! Here are a few pictures of the event. Macayla and Truman look like an old married couple! Jake is looking as adorable as always!

Meeting of the Cousins

Yesterday morning Truman, Jerry and I were introduced to Joachim. We were so excited to meet the newest addition to the family. Joachim was so sweet and seems very content. Truman had a great time showing Joachim the ropes! I can't wait until they are able to play together! Both Anya and Wolf are doing great and are enjoying their new son. They left for Alaska yesterday afternoon for two weeks to visit Wolf's family. Then they will be back in Toronto to visit with us some more!

New York, New York

Truman, Jerry and I left for New York City on Friday evening. We have decided that this was our trip full of delays! We arrived in NYC after midnight and we were all exhausted. It was so nice of Sabrina and Mary to meet us at the apartment at such a late hour. The next morning we got up and decided to be on our way to show Truman the big apple! We walked through Central Park, then up to 5th Avenue where Truman participated in his first protest march. There truly must have been about 100 police officers for every protester....an amazing sight to see. One thing for certain, we did feel safe. We then walked to Macy's for a holiday shopping experience. I loved the hustle and bustle of it all. Of course I could not stop myself from buying Truman a little something. I am soooo weak!

Frans picked us up from downtown and took us to his place in Queen's. Truman and I were introduced to the twins Rochelle and Natasha. As you can see from the picture, my son did not waste his time in warming up to the girls! What cuties! Adriana and Frans are going to have a fun time chasing the boys away in a few years!

After visiting Frans, we then introduced Truman to Lilly, as Lilly graciously offered to babysit Truman while we went to Sabrina and Mary's Hanukkah party. We hope Truman was not being too difficult that evening! All I know is that he was crying when we left and asleep when we got back. We had such a nice evening at the party, and both Jerry and I probably ate too much. The meatballs were to die for!

Sunday was a nice family day! We went to Lilly's home for the Tobak annual Hanukkah dinner. We were so honoured to be a part of the festivities and maybe we will be invited to attend next year! Truman of course was spoiled by everyone!

I can't believe how quickly the weekend passed us by and how quickly the holidays are approaching. Truman and I will be busy finishing our shopping, wrapping and maybe even some baking.
In terms of development, Truman learned to grab at toys last week. He is also enjoying chewing his hands, so much so I am hoping he is not teething and he just really likes the taste of his fingers! He is also still talking non-stop and he loves flirting. Both of these traits he takes after his father!

Sleeping Beauty

Last night I found my two boys curled up with one another, how sweet! Morrie is starting to really take to Truman and he really wants to play with him. Poor Morrie is going to have to wait a bit longer for the two of them to interact. Since the weather is so nice, Truman, Morrie and I will go on a nice long walk this afternoon.

Today Truman completed the second part of the study at York University. The facilitator mentioned that she received good results for her research and she was really pleased. We may even participate in some other studies in a few months. We then headed to my work to say hello to everyone. Truman was flirting with all of the ladies - smiling and giggling at them. Lana and I went to Tim Horotn's for lunch while Truman caught a nice and much needed nap. Tomorrow is our annual Holiday Brunch, so tonight I am going to have to do some baking....now, what to make?

Jolly Jumping

We tried out Truman's jolly jumper late last week...and Truman had a blast. We decided to change models as the one we received as a shower gift from work was too big and we could not get it up the stairs. Truman liked both equally well, but he is still trying to figure the contraption out. Now, when he is not in the jolly jumper he tries to bounce on my lap. What have we started??
This weekend we celebrated Jerry's birthday. Truman spent a few hours at Wawa and David's house while Jerry and I went out for a romantic dinner. I have to say it is getting easier to leave him, although we did call once to see how the little man was doing. On Sunday morning we met up with Pam and Ashu for a lovely brunch at Mildred Pierce...what a lovely restaurant! Both mom and baby-to-be are doing well....we are anticipating the baby's arrival at the end of April. Sunday night Jerry, Truman, Pat, Tina, Nanny and Oopa went out for dinner to celebrate Tina's 28th birthday. Truman was fascinated by all the lights and was very good through the entire meal.
Today Truman was a participant in a research study at York University. We will be going back tomorrow for the second part of the study, which is testing long term memory in 3-month old babies. Truman did a great job and was able to maintain focus and concentration on the flashing images.
Tonight, Misty and Tina came over to celebrate Tina's birthday (again! lucky girl). Misty helped Truman fall asleep so we decided to test out his crib...he lasted approximately 5 minutes. How does he know???
Jerry, Truman and I would like to congratulate Tim and Lauren on their new arrival Ben who was born on December 11th. We can't wait to meet you. Both mom and baby are doing well!

Ready for a Paper Route?

Last night Jerry and I took Truman to visit Santa. Before we left however, I could not resist taking some more pictures. Here, Truman is posing for his ID badge for his new paper route. He has to earn his keep somehow? Truman's outfit is courtesy of Pat and Tina Inc. Honestly, how adorable is it???

Truman had a great time telling Santa what he wanted for Christmas this year. Now my dear son, were you naughty or nice these past three months?

Truman and I had a busy week. We had our last Salsa class, we enjoyed it so much we have signed up for the next session starting January. Tuesday we did a little Christmas shopping with my parents. Yesterday we had baby massage, went for lunch, then a nice walk. Truman tried out his Jolly Jumper yesterday and loved it...I'll have to post a pic soon! This morning we are off to Yoga for some much needed stretching!

Truman and I would like to wish Jerry a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Lots of love and kisses to you!

Truman's First Vacation

Truman, Jerry and I just got back from our vacation to Orlando Florida. We travelled with the Sullivans (Myriah, Scott, Ethan and Olivia) and had such a wonderful time. I can't believe we are already back in cold Ontario. Truman's first vacation was also a week of many other firsts for the little guy:

1. Truman's first flight. He seemed to love flying as much as I do! He was very good, and we didn't hear a peep from him. Jerry and I figure it was the sound of the engine that was soothing to him.

2. Truman's first time swimming. Jerry and Truman loved to go into the water together. Truman seemed to like the water, so much in fact that one day he fell asleep! It must have been a pleasant reminder of the womb, and the warm water helped a lot!

3. Truman also enjoyed his first time (and mine) to Disney! Specifically, we ventured to Animal Kingdom and saw lots of animals (duh!) and took a safari ride which put Tdot to sleep! He was truly an angel all day, with an exception of our car ride home....Jerry was so excited about this adventure and I can't wait to take both of my boys back in a few years - so that Truman can truly enjoy it!

4. Truman rolled from back to front for the first time on his 3-month birthday! I was so proud of the little guy! He has repeated this milestone a couple more times since! Keep rolling!

5. Most importantly, Truman went outlet shopping for the first time! And wow did he enjoy himself and went a little crazy with his spending. All of his life savings were spent on designer labels at discount prices! Seriously, his mother has a problem controlling herself with all of the cute clothes!

Jerry and I had such a wonderful time travelling with Truman, we can't wait to do it again! It was a lot of fun travelling with the Sullivan's, especially Ethan who I have come to adore! Our next trip is to NYC in a couple weeks. I can't wait to stroll down 5th Avenue latte in hand, showing off my little one!

The Weigh In: Part Two

Truman weighed in at 14lbs at his 3 month appointment, he is growing to be such a big boy. He is also quite long, at 64cm. He is almost too long for his car seat, which makes me incredibly sad. This time we have together has been moving too quickly.

Here's what we have been up to! This week we have been getting ready for our upcoming trip to Florida. Packing is posing quite a challenge, but I think we will manage. Truman is taking up one huge piece of luggage for his own things! Today we will be going to yoga and then off to run some errands to get ready for our flight on Saturday.

Last night we spoke to our cousins Sabrina and Mary in New York to make plans for our visit in December. I can't wait to take Truman to the big apple. 5th Avenue here we come...

Yesterday we went to baby massage with Rebecca, Jake, Bronna and Macayla. Truman was being such a good boy today - smiling and talking away...no fussing. I'm thinking back to a few weeks ago when we would go to classes and he would only feed and fuss, now he has become quite an interactive boy. He seemed to enjoy the massage so much he fell right asleep after class.

On Tuesday night I had my first night out alone without Truman and Jerry. Tina and I took Misty to see Chicago for her 30th birthday. Although I thought about him a lot I made it through the night (and with only two phone calls!).

Here's a picture of Truman sitting in his Bumbo...as you can see we have a slight swift breeze in the house! I am hoping soon Truman will be able to sit up straight!

Truman goes to work

Truman and I visited my work on Monday. Truman got to see my office and meet all of my work colleagues. He was a really good boy and liked to smile at everyone, especially Sonia who got an extra big smile! Maybe if i keep exposing Truman to the hospital he'll want to be a doctor! In the attached picture auntie Lana is holding Truman while he shows off his hat from his uncle Pat. He's ready for winter.

Last night we went to visit Wawa and David, we were so excited to hear all about Truman's cousin Joachim. He sounds like such a sweet boy and sure has a place in Wawa's heart. Truman is a little jealous and is looking forward to spending more time with Wawa on Sunday.

Today Truman and I will be going to the movies together for the first time. We'll be meeting up with Rebecca, Jake, Bronna and Macalya. It should be fun.

Sushi Time!

Sunday night Truman and I met with Bronna, Jeff and Macayla; Ryan, Rebecca and Jake; and Ben and Liana for sushi. This was the first time I have had sushi since I was pregnant - it was delicious! How I missed Japanese food. A special thank you to Ryan for being Truman's substitute father. I appreciate you helping him fall asleep while I finished my meal! Again, all three kids were great...they sure do show well! Macayla and Truman spent the night talking and flirting with one another.

Earlier in the day, Truman met up with his friends Ethan, Olivia and Christine at the Pickle Barrel for lunch. It was great seeing everyone again. Truman enjoyed being passed around and being social - he is such a curious fellow.

On Saturday night Truman, Jerry and I had a lovely time at Lana and Mario's wedding party! We missed seeing Skitchy, hopefully we'll see her at our next visit!

Welcome Joachim!

Truman wanted to post a special announcement for his little cousin. Joachim was born October 24th and weighed 4.4 kg. What a cutie! He looks just like his father.

Ania and Wolf are doing great and sounds as though they are thoroughly enjoying parenthood.

We cannot wait to meet Joachim in January!

I'm a big boy now!

Last night, we visited our good friends the Sullivans. Little Ethan and Olivia were wonderful as always and much time was spent discussing our upcoming trip together to Florida. Truman has had quite a busy weekend (as always!), he was in dad's office twice working on some research that needed to be done asap. He also spent some time shopping as he had to exchange his new jacket as a button had fallen off.

On another note, little Truman has learned to laugh out loud and smile. His days are now filled with ear to ear grins, and he's even sleeping better as well. Next week he should be ready to take Morrie for his first walk by himself.

Morrie has also really just discovered Truman. They are starting to play together (in that Morrie wants to play with him), and the other day Truman got his first I love You licks from Morrie. Yes baba, we did wash his hands right away!

Happy Halloween

Truman had such a fun day yesterday. He had a little Halloween party at Mother Goose. Bronna, Rebecca and I must have taken about 100 pictures each of our little ones. Jake is dressed as a bear, Macayla a ballerina, and Truman a cow! We then went for lunch and again our babies were angels.

Jerry, Truman, Morrie and I went to Wawa and Grump's for dinner and to see the trick or treaters. Morrie didn't want to feel left out so he dressed up as a lion.
Look at Truman's winning smile!

Halloween Brunch

Truman went to his first Halloween party hosted by the Thornton's yesterday. All the kids were having a grand time, but I don't know how much they were enjoying their costumes! As you can see, my little son was a cow (maybe a more appropriate costume for mommy), Christine a bumble bee, and Olivia a pretty flower! Christine has recently learned how to walk which made her even more adorable.
Thanks Ben, Steph and Christine for hosting such a nice afternoon. It was great to see everyone again. Party attendees included: Myriah, Scott, Olivia and Ethan, Jamie and Erin, and Tim and Katie. Can you imagine what next year is going to be like?

The Weigh In

Truman had his doctor's appointment on Wednesday and weighed in at 5.6 kg! What a chunkey monkey - we are so happy that he continues to gain weight! He was so good when he got his immunizations. I had to leave the room, I could not watch my poor son being jabbed in his cubby leg by needles...yikes!

I keep trying to catch Truman's smiles on camera...this is probably the best one that I got! I love when he smiles, it warms my heart. Today he even gave his Oopa a little giggle!

Truman will be two months on Sunday, where has all the time gone?

Wednesday, October 25, 2006

Meeting Grandpa

Truman met his grandfather (from Poland) for the first time last week. He sang old Polish songs to Truman to help calm him down and it worked! Krys even got a few smiles!

Truman is starting to talk more and more these days and really likes to be social....he is definitely taking after his father!!

Wawa babysat Truman for the first time on Saturday night, while Jerry and I enjoyed our first dinner date out since the little one was born. Wawa is such a natural, Truman loves to be held by her!

We would like to send our congratulations to aunt Anya and uncle Wolf and welcome their newest addition Joachim to the world. Truman is looking forward to meeting his cousin in January!

Mother Goose

Truman, Jake and Macayla had another Mother Goose class on Tuesday. The kids (and moms) seem to be enjoying it more and more each week. Truman is leaning in to kiss Macayla in the attached picture or at least cuddle with her. Don't worry Jeff my son will act like a gentleman! After class, the moms decided to go for a well deserved lunch at the Pickle Barrel...our little bundles all behaved themselves...we were lucky ladies! In the afternoon Truman, Morrie and I headed for another sleep over at Nanny and Oopa's....we are sure spending a lot of time in Ajax lately. I wonder if Morrie will want to come back home again. On Sunday Morrie was being a stubborn puppy and did not want to get into the car to come back home. Poor Jerry, his heart was broken!
Truman learned to blow bubbles and drool today. I knew the drooling wouldn't take long to learn - he's just like his mom!

Brrr it's cold outside!

We suited Truman up on Friday to take him for a walk in the cold weather even though our little man is usually very hot. Again, Truman had a busy weekend. On Saturday we travelled to Brantford for Andrew and Lori's wedding. It was nice to see all of Jerry's law school friends. Truman would like to apologize to Tash for his little (big) accident. On Sunday we had yummy thanksgiving dinner at Nanny and Oopa's house. We had to celebrate a week later as we had Tina and Pat's wedding the weekend before. Tina made two types of cheesecake for us, pumpkin and apple...it is hard to decide which one was better. Poor Truman was so warm we had to strip him down to his diapers!

Tina's Wedding Weekend

What a good boy Truman was this weekend! Honestly, we don't know what we would have done without the Baby Bjorn - what a life saver! Friday night Jerry and I were able to enjoy our first fancy dinner out with Truman, where we met Pat's family for the first time. Other than the piece of duck that fell on Truman's head - he seemed to enjoy himself! On Saturday we celebrated Tina's wedding. Truman was honoured to be a part of the day! His dance card was full and all the ladies were trying to cut in! On Sunday we went for brunch at Hot House with our new family, and Truman continued to be a very good boy and was on his best behaviour! What would we do without the Baby Bjorn!!!

Busy Boy, Busy Weekend

This weekend was very adventurous for little T-dot. Saturday Truman crashed his aunt Tina's bachelorette party, of course he was the life of the party! He even got a little naked to mark the occasion. On Sunday, Rebecca and Shane held a party in Truman's honour, where he was able to meet all of daddy's law school friends. The food was delish! Thanks for the doggy bag Rebecca! Then on Sunday evening, Daddy took Truman to meet some of Wawa and Baba's friends...of course as we like to say, Truman was such a good boy and showed very well! Then on Monday, Truman met Christine, Ben and Steph for lunch to celebrate Ben's book publishing - congratulations again Ben! We had our first sleep over at Nanny and Oopa's on Monday night - which was great fun for little Truman as he was showered with constant attention!
Truman has been smiling more and more each day - I am trying to catch one on camera, but it is posing to be very difficult! Stay tuned!

4 Weeks Young!

Yesterday Truman turned 4 weeks old, I can't believe how fast time is going by!!! Truman loves his tummy time and tries to shimmy down the change table, he is such a strong (and hungry) boy! Last night Truman visited his aunt Lana and uncle Mario to congratulate them on their marriage. We also think that Truman gave Lana his first smile - the little guy is already becoming a flirt. Today we are going to our one month appointment to see if Tman has gained some more weight...he feels so much heavier.

Truman's First Date

Macayla, Bronna and Jeff came over for a visit yesterday and we sat outside enjoying the last few days of pleasant weather. Truman and Macayla had their first date, but were chaperoned by Steve, obviously Truman was not happy about this situation!!!

Today, great grandmother Babcia is coming over to say hello and to dispense 90 years worth of wisdom. Depending on how we are feeling, we may also introduce Truman to Olivia as another potential girlfriend although her big brother Ethan may have something to say about it!!!

And soon, grandpa Topolski is going to fly in from Poland for a week. Truman can't wait to learn how to smoke.

My New Chair

Truman got a new bouncy chair today and he decided NOT to be fussy while in it! It seemed to me that he liked the music and vibrations...and I was happy that he stayed in the chair for about 10 minutes before he wanted to be picked up again!! Truman always wants to be held by someone...he especially loves to fall asleep on your chest as you can see he fell asleep on Oopa! My sweet boy! I truly cannot get enough of him!
