Ironic

Last night it was I who was having trouble sleeping and not my darling son! We put Truman to sleep around 10:30pm last night and he didn't wake until 4:30am. I think I went in and checked on him about 100 times. Is he breathing? Is he OK? I lay awake nervous that something may happen to him. I know these thoughts were quite irrational, but I was honestly worried. He quickly ate and then slept until 8:30 this morning. Now, what worries me most is that our little one likes to sleep on his tummy. The last few nights he'd wake up every hour or every few hours, but last night he slept so well. Tonight, however, will not be a good indicator of his sleep habits since we probably will get home rather late. But, back on his tummy he will go. I think he'll be OK since he can move his head well and he is able to roll from his stomach to his side. I know I am still going to worry though....

Truman's disposition is back to normal today and it probably has to do with the fact that he slept so well last night. He has been a little chatter box and is giggling and smiling again. I guess I can't blame him for his demeanour the past few days, I am pretty grumpy too on little sleep!

Tonight we are off the the Sullivan's to bring in 2007. I want to wish everyone a HAPPY NEW YEAR and all the best for 2007!!!

4 Months Today

I am conflicted today as I am 1/3 done my maternity leave but my darling son is 4 months and many things are changing in his life! I can't wait for the next few months to see changes in his development.

So, crib training...Day 1 - DISASTROUS! Day 2 - WONDERFUL, Truman got up only twice and I thought that we had solved our sleeping problems in one night. I was so proud of our son, thinking how quickly he adapted! Then, last night from 12am until 6am Truman woke up every hour, on the hour for his pacifier. Luckily I was able to sleep between wakings and felt OK today. Truman cried for awhile this morning when I refused to place the soother in his mouth...it was a battle of the strongest willed and eventually he won. I then brought him to our bed but he refused to sleep! Instead he wanted to play. I am happy that he has had many naps today...I just hope he doesn't hate me for ending our sleeping arrangement. I am holding on, and holding on strong, but I miss sleeping with my little one. This coming from the person who never dreamt of co-sleeping! My, how circumstances change things. Truman has been a little grumpy the past few days, but I hope once he gets back into his sleeping habits he will be back to his happy self. As I write this however, T-dot is chatting up a storm!

This morning we had a short visit from Nanny and Oopa. Then, Truman and I went downtown and had lunch with Jerry and did a little shopping/returning at the Eaton Center. Wow was the mall a zoo, it was very trying making our way through the crowds. We are so excited for the long weekend and have an extra day with Jerry at home!

Merry Christmas!

Ho Ho Ho! Merry Christmas!!! We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season! It is hard to believe that all the presents have been opened and all the food eaten!

Jerry, Truman and I started the holidays with a lovely brunch at the Sullivan's on Saturday afternoon. The Thornton's and the Deans' were also in attendance. Yummy food was had by all!

On Christmas Eve Truman, Jerry and I had a wonderful lunch with David, Wawa, and Peter. Truman was so cute sitting in his Bumbo at the table, he really enjoys being a social butterfly! We then raced home to pack the car for our visit to Ajax. Morrie was delighted to see Rosie, a little friend for him to play with. Rosie is also a miniature schnauzer that Pat and Tina are puppy-sitting. You just have to imagine two "Morrie's" running and barking around the house. It was great entertainment watching them both play. On Christmas Eve Truman was able to open one of his gifts which was a snowsuit from Oopa and Nanny. We tried it on him and then went for a family walk.

Truman had a difficulty sleeping on Christmas Eve, his eczema was really bothering him and he kept scratching his face. Jerry and I felt so sorry for him and we had a hard time soothing him. It almost seemed like the cream we were using agitated him more. His skin does not seem to be getting any better and he now has figured out he can scratch his own face.

Christmas morning was lovely, Tina made fresh croissants and chai tea...so yummy (do you see the theme of food??). We opened our gifts and everyone was spoiled again this year. In the afternoon Truman, Jerry and I went to Alison's parents house to visit with Alexis. Almost every year Alie and I have our picture taken together, I hope we now will start a new tradition with our children. Alexis was in such great spirits despite having her first tooth come in!

Tina and Pat spent most of the day preparing a Christmas feast for the family. Wanda and David also joined us and it was a pleasant evening. Of course, everyone wanted to hold Truman and topic of conversation generally flowed around him.

Despite having a wonderful holiday, Truman has had a difficult few days. Last night Truman was put in his crib for the first time. The first hour was great, Jerry and I could hardly believe it. We started to think that this was going to be an easy feat! Boy were we wrong! From about 10:30pm until 4:00am he was up almost every 10 minutes to half an hour. I moved myself into his room and slept on a makeshift bed to try to get even 20 minutes of sleep. Jerry woke me up at about 7am and Truman was thankfully still sleeping. He got up around 8am (probably because he was hungry) and then we slept in our bed until late this morning. Wow is this going to be tough. I am happy that I was able to sleep for a little bit. I hope tonight will be a little easier but I am afraid that the worst is not over yet. I have to keep thinking that this is for Truman's sake and that the longer we wait the more difficult this will become. I was heartbroken putting him to sleep in his crib last night. Every time I would put his soother back in his mouth he had a death grip on my hands. Which made my heart break a little more. Stay tuned!!

The Weigh In: Part Three/Happy Hanukkah

On Wednesday Truman had his 4 month check up and weighed in at 15lbs 1 oz and is 64.5 cm long...which means he only grew a half a centimeter in a month so I am assuming the measurements are off!! He was very brave when he got his shots and only made a whimper with the first needle.

We have been spending the week getting ready for the holidays and finished our shopping and only have a few more packages to wrap! Today we went to a lovely Hanukkah party hosted by Macayla and Bronna. Bronna, is the Jewish Martha Stewart so there were many delicious treats to be devoured! Yummy! Here are a few pictures of the event. Macayla and Truman look like an old married couple! Jake is looking as adorable as always!

Meeting of the Cousins

Yesterday morning Truman, Jerry and I were introduced to Joachim. We were so excited to meet the newest addition to the family. Joachim was so sweet and seems very content. Truman had a great time showing Joachim the ropes! I can't wait until they are able to play together! Both Anya and Wolf are doing great and are enjoying their new son. They left for Alaska yesterday afternoon for two weeks to visit Wolf's family. Then they will be back in Toronto to visit with us some more!

New York, New York

Truman, Jerry and I left for New York City on Friday evening. We have decided that this was our trip full of delays! We arrived in NYC after midnight and we were all exhausted. It was so nice of Sabrina and Mary to meet us at the apartment at such a late hour. The next morning we got up and decided to be on our way to show Truman the big apple! We walked through Central Park, then up to 5th Avenue where Truman participated in his first protest march. There truly must have been about 100 police officers for every protester....an amazing sight to see. One thing for certain, we did feel safe. We then walked to Macy's for a holiday shopping experience. I loved the hustle and bustle of it all. Of course I could not stop myself from buying Truman a little something. I am soooo weak!

Frans picked us up from downtown and took us to his place in Queen's. Truman and I were introduced to the twins Rochelle and Natasha. As you can see from the picture, my son did not waste his time in warming up to the girls! What cuties! Adriana and Frans are going to have a fun time chasing the boys away in a few years!

After visiting Frans, we then introduced Truman to Lilly, as Lilly graciously offered to babysit Truman while we went to Sabrina and Mary's Hanukkah party. We hope Truman was not being too difficult that evening! All I know is that he was crying when we left and asleep when we got back. We had such a nice evening at the party, and both Jerry and I probably ate too much. The meatballs were to die for!

Sunday was a nice family day! We went to Lilly's home for the Tobak annual Hanukkah dinner. We were so honoured to be a part of the festivities and maybe we will be invited to attend next year! Truman of course was spoiled by everyone!

I can't believe how quickly the weekend passed us by and how quickly the holidays are approaching. Truman and I will be busy finishing our shopping, wrapping and maybe even some baking.
In terms of development, Truman learned to grab at toys last week. He is also enjoying chewing his hands, so much so I am hoping he is not teething and he just really likes the taste of his fingers! He is also still talking non-stop and he loves flirting. Both of these traits he takes after his father!

Sleeping Beauty

Last night I found my two boys curled up with one another, how sweet! Morrie is starting to really take to Truman and he really wants to play with him. Poor Morrie is going to have to wait a bit longer for the two of them to interact. Since the weather is so nice, Truman, Morrie and I will go on a nice long walk this afternoon.

Today Truman completed the second part of the study at York University. The facilitator mentioned that she received good results for her research and she was really pleased. We may even participate in some other studies in a few months. We then headed to my work to say hello to everyone. Truman was flirting with all of the ladies - smiling and giggling at them. Lana and I went to Tim Horotn's for lunch while Truman caught a nice and much needed nap. Tomorrow is our annual Holiday Brunch, so tonight I am going to have to do some baking....now, what to make?

Jolly Jumping

We tried out Truman's jolly jumper late last week...and Truman had a blast. We decided to change models as the one we received as a shower gift from work was too big and we could not get it up the stairs. Truman liked both equally well, but he is still trying to figure the contraption out. Now, when he is not in the jolly jumper he tries to bounce on my lap. What have we started??
This weekend we celebrated Jerry's birthday. Truman spent a few hours at Wawa and David's house while Jerry and I went out for a romantic dinner. I have to say it is getting easier to leave him, although we did call once to see how the little man was doing. On Sunday morning we met up with Pam and Ashu for a lovely brunch at Mildred Pierce...what a lovely restaurant! Both mom and baby-to-be are doing well....we are anticipating the baby's arrival at the end of April. Sunday night Jerry, Truman, Pat, Tina, Nanny and Oopa went out for dinner to celebrate Tina's 28th birthday. Truman was fascinated by all the lights and was very good through the entire meal.
Today Truman was a participant in a research study at York University. We will be going back tomorrow for the second part of the study, which is testing long term memory in 3-month old babies. Truman did a great job and was able to maintain focus and concentration on the flashing images.
Tonight, Misty and Tina came over to celebrate Tina's birthday (again! lucky girl). Misty helped Truman fall asleep so we decided to test out his crib...he lasted approximately 5 minutes. How does he know???
Jerry, Truman and I would like to congratulate Tim and Lauren on their new arrival Ben who was born on December 11th. We can't wait to meet you. Both mom and baby are doing well!

Ready for a Paper Route?

Last night Jerry and I took Truman to visit Santa. Before we left however, I could not resist taking some more pictures. Here, Truman is posing for his ID badge for his new paper route. He has to earn his keep somehow? Truman's outfit is courtesy of Pat and Tina Inc. Honestly, how adorable is it???

Truman had a great time telling Santa what he wanted for Christmas this year. Now my dear son, were you naughty or nice these past three months?

Truman and I had a busy week. We had our last Salsa class, we enjoyed it so much we have signed up for the next session starting January. Tuesday we did a little Christmas shopping with my parents. Yesterday we had baby massage, went for lunch, then a nice walk. Truman tried out his Jolly Jumper yesterday and loved it...I'll have to post a pic soon! This morning we are off to Yoga for some much needed stretching!

Truman and I would like to wish Jerry a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Lots of love and kisses to you!

Truman's First Vacation

Truman, Jerry and I just got back from our vacation to Orlando Florida. We travelled with the Sullivans (Myriah, Scott, Ethan and Olivia) and had such a wonderful time. I can't believe we are already back in cold Ontario. Truman's first vacation was also a week of many other firsts for the little guy:

1. Truman's first flight. He seemed to love flying as much as I do! He was very good, and we didn't hear a peep from him. Jerry and I figure it was the sound of the engine that was soothing to him.

2. Truman's first time swimming. Jerry and Truman loved to go into the water together. Truman seemed to like the water, so much in fact that one day he fell asleep! It must have been a pleasant reminder of the womb, and the warm water helped a lot!

3. Truman also enjoyed his first time (and mine) to Disney! Specifically, we ventured to Animal Kingdom and saw lots of animals (duh!) and took a safari ride which put Tdot to sleep! He was truly an angel all day, with an exception of our car ride home....Jerry was so excited about this adventure and I can't wait to take both of my boys back in a few years - so that Truman can truly enjoy it!

4. Truman rolled from back to front for the first time on his 3-month birthday! I was so proud of the little guy! He has repeated this milestone a couple more times since! Keep rolling!

5. Most importantly, Truman went outlet shopping for the first time! And wow did he enjoy himself and went a little crazy with his spending. All of his life savings were spent on designer labels at discount prices! Seriously, his mother has a problem controlling herself with all of the cute clothes!

Jerry and I had such a wonderful time travelling with Truman, we can't wait to do it again! It was a lot of fun travelling with the Sullivan's, especially Ethan who I have come to adore! Our next trip is to NYC in a couple weeks. I can't wait to stroll down 5th Avenue latte in hand, showing off my little one!
